Friday Check-in—2/6/26

It’s Friday and I’m afraid I’m not doing much better than I was last we spoke. I was too sick to go to a library event yesterday and it was quite a blow to my mental state. I was very much looking forward to it—fixated on it, you could say—so it’s more than just disappointment or frustration at my illness; it’s the dissolving of something I was counting on to lift my spirits, combined with my autistic brain’s hatred for plans changing outside my control.

There is, however, the fact that today is 2/6/26 which is a very neat number and my brain rather enjoys that. It’s not much, but any little bit helps. Especially when you’re running on low sleep. I wasn’t able to fall asleep until past five in the morning and, while I was able to sleep until about half an hour prior to my writing this, that’s only about seven hours of sleep and I typically have closer to ten. It’s a really unfortunate cycle, falling asleep so late, because it means I have to fight to not take a nap after waking up or else I’ll just make it even harder to fall asleep tonight.

On the bright side, I am visiting my dog this weekend and I have new sheet music. Not that I’ve really been able to play much, exhausted as I’ve been, but it’s nice to have it to look forward to. Since it doesn’t depend on some external factor, I get to just enjoy knowing it’s there whenever I’m ready. Seeing my dog does depend on external factors, unfortunately, but the joy I get when I’m with him is well worth the occasional anguish of changing plans. He gets confused easily now, nine years old as he is, but he’s still the sweetest thing.

I also have a new book to read! It’s a collection of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple stories and I’m very excited. I did borrow it from the library so there’s a bit of a time constraint on it, but a month is plenty of time—especially at the rate I’ve been devouring books lately.

I do have one thing I need to do soon, and that’s go yarn shopping. I haven’t started on my dad’s birthday present yet and, while it is about three weeks away, I want to give myself plenty of time. I haven’t really made anything like it before either, so it’s extra important this time around.

Last but not least, the muppets! You may not know this, but I absolutely adore the muppets. They’ve actually helped me get through pretty rough times so I was really excited for their return. I enjoyed the special quite a bit, though I do have a few critiques. I’m considering making a bonus feature for the blog where I review it, but I’m not sure yet. What I’ll say for now is that I think they captured the spirit of the muppets quite well, and that’s the most important thing.

Thank you for reading and I’ll see you again soon!
